January 29th: "I so love being me!"

Jan. 29th, 1986 (Age 7, Evansburg, New Hampshire)

Dear diary, it is almost the end of January. I am tired of writing the enishles "J-A-N" in this diary of mine.

Dear Diary, today Emma R. showed me how to make an origami swan. She showed everybody in our reading group at school. I thought it was pretty hard.

I stayed home from school today because I have a bad cold. I’m not positive that I’ll be going tomorrow, but I think I will be.
My aunt is sick, also. She’s been in bed all day except to eat. They’re leaving tomorrow.
Evangeline printed her t-shirt in shop class today. It’s a black t-shirt and in orange it has a question mark and it says, “The Sign of the Times.” Mine is a lavender t-shirt and in black ink it says “Peace, Love, and Unity.” Beside the words it has the symbol for each. I think that Evangeline and I should wear them to the mall together sometime. Everybody would think we were liberals!

Friday, January 29th, 1993 (Age 14, Evansburg)

We got our report cards. I got a B+ in English, but otherwise all A's.
I went over to Angel's tonight. We watch the World Professional Figure Skating Competition.
The big issue in the news right now is Bill Clinton wanting to allow homosexuals in the military. I'm all for it. I don't see why not? Everybody should have the right to serve their country, and if not it's prejudice. A gay person isn't going to hit on someone they know is straight.
A friend of Daisy's died last night. I know how that feels. Or do I, really?

Saturday, January 29th, 1994 (Age 15, Nagasaki, Japan)

The downstairs bathroom is freezing. We need one of those heated toilet seats like some people have. I would never get up!
Today was...you guessed it...base shopping day! Another day of mindless searching in less-than-adequate shopping facilities. I bought magazine, magazine, and magazine. I got the new Meatloaf album (highly recommended by Mandy). I'm listening to a hilarious song now called "Wasted Youth." The beginning...geez!
And, last but not least, I bought Daisy, Angel and Mary Jo each a kid's birthday card (they're all turning sixteen at the beginning of March). Angel's has paper dolls, Mary Jo's has alien finger puppets, and Daisy's has a birthday badge that says "I'm 3 today!" I told her to wear it to school.
Now I'm in an incredibly gleeful state of mind, probably from browsing through so many little kids' cards.

I went with my parents to the Nagasaki Prefectural Karaoke Contest. Boredom! Humiliation too, since the MC's put us on the spot and we couldn't understand what they were saying. Also the TV cameras kept showing us when they moved over the audience. They made us sit in the very front row.
I'm surprised Sei didn't call at all today. He might still call after I'm in bed. He was going to try to get his ticket changed today. If he did, I hope he got it for Monday night, because I want to leave Wednesday or Thursday and I don't want him to spend all that money for nothing. Monday is tomorrow though, so I guess there's not much chance of that.
I almost forgot to mention, I dyed my hair...the exact same color! Not even a remote difference, as far as I can see. What a pisser.

I’ve started reading Little Women, which I read before in the third grade. It’s so sweet.
Sei is taking his first test Saturday morning.
Essi got her hair cut off all the way to her chin. It’s so nice, and I think it makes her look older and fairy-like.

Sei and I played pool today. We hadn't gone for a while.

Bad things definitely only happen to good people. That's because the bad people can always escape, knowing the good people will clean up their messes for them.

Friday, January 29th, 1999 (Age 20, Exton)

I've successfully completed my first week at work. Yay. There are still a lot of things I haven't done yet, such as a delivery order.
Exton feels like my home now. My apartment is mine. It's great.

Sei wants me to quit my job at the supermarket. It's because I have to work in the office counting money till 2:00 a.m. tonight and he thinks that's too late. It is, but I only have to do it once a month or less. He says he can support me until I move back to Japan. I would love to quit because the customers are so abusive and the office girls act like I'm stupid, but I think it would be too risky to have no income at all. I don't know what to do.

Sei is in the middle of his exam week, but at least he has pay day to look forward to on Thursday. I've got two more weeks and my money's all gone.

I had just one class today.

Today was the coldest that I've ever felt it in Japan. The paper says it got down to -3 degrees Celsius, plus the wind was so strong it was blowing bicycles away. I couldn't make myself go out to buy stuff for dinner, and I hope Sei won't be too mad because he left for school already in a huff over his thesis.  I'm going to bed at 9:30 because there's nothing to do.

I'm really PMS-ing hard this period. I've just about had it with everyone.

Saturday, January 29th, 2005 (Age 26, Kobe)

Today is Penn's first birthday (or what we decided would be his birthday). Boohoo, my puppy dog's all grown up! Yesterday I took him up the mountain on my own in the car. Today for lunch me, Sei, Penn, Sei's mom, and her dog had lunch at the dog cafe and then just Sei and I took Penn to the beach. Supposedly that's where the shelter first picked up him and his brothers. Today a little toy poodle was chasing him and I got it on video. He drank a few sips of salt water and then a whole bottle of water, and on the ride home he puked it all up along with his breakfast. The carry cage was a mess and of course I had to give him a bath. He didn't get any presents but I think he enjoyed his birthday.

It was Penn's birthday and we took him to the beach like last year. This time the sand was dry so he didn't get so dirty. Penn is definitely one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I'm so lucky to have him.

I so love being me! I can't believe I'm saying this about myself, but I am so cool. I love my new lifestyle, the way I dress, the cool way I sit in a coffee shop,...haha. I love being me.
